About this rug

Kashan rugs woven at the turn of the 20th century in the manner of Haji Mollah Mohammad Hassan Mohtasham are among the most sought-after Persian rugs ever made, prized for their lustrous wool and precise drawing. This example, attributed to the Ateshoglu circle and woven around 1890–1905, has a brick-red field with a pale ivory medallion, deep indigo spandrels and a dense floral border in red, ivory and navy. More than a century later the wool still glows.
