Seirafian Isfahan Miniature Rug – Poets in the Garden

Woven in the Seirafian workshop of Isfahan, this small pictorial rug reads like a page from a Persian miniature. In a blossoming garden, a white-bearded sage raises his cup while musicians play the setar and young attendants pour wine and gather fruit: the classical scene of poetry, music and friendship celebrated by Hafez and Khayyam. The ivory field is drawn with the fine line of a painter's brush, framed by a deep navy floral border and finished with a woven inscription panel. At 650 knots per square inch on a silk foundation, every face and fold of cloth is rendered with remarkable clarity. A piece to hang as art as much as to lay on the floor.
